Launch of Overstrand Library membership database clean-up campaign

Launch of Overstrand Library membership database clean-up campaign

Overstrand Municipality will embark on a library membership re-registration campaign across all towns in the Overstrand to clean-up and update their membership database.

The above is mainly due to an audit report by the Auditor General South Africa (AGSA) on the Library Membership Register of public libraries in the Western Cape, when it was found that attention should be given to the administration of public library memberships.

The deadline for the database upgrade is set for September 2024 and Overstrand Libraries will be rolled out in phases.

Library cards found inactive by then will be automatically removed from the patron’s file. Please inform the library about the death of loved ones.

Membership of public libraries is free for residents (property owners/tenants) in Overstrand. Visitors without a temporary or permanent residency permit, or proof of Overstrand address, will have to pay a facilities fee.

All residents are urged to support the campaign and to re-register online or in person (forms available at your nearest library).

The new library membership application form can be accessed through the municipality’s website at www.overstrand.gov.za, scroll to Municipal Services and click on Application Forms or click here www.overstrand.gov.za/application-forms/

If residents choose to complete the application form online, they must ensure that the information provided, is accurate and complete and ensure that all required documents are attached to the application.

Patrons must provide the following when applying or renewing membership:

  • Fully completed new membership application form
  • ID or passport of applicant (also for kids: or birth certificate)
  • Proof of address in your name (current municipal account statement with your home address) or
  • Proof of address e.g. either a valid contract or written confirmation from the owner of the address e.g. use of the owner’s municipal account, affidavit not older than 3 months
  • Current physical library card. A replacement fee may be required in the case of a lost card
  • Two contactable references with address and telephone number (neighbours, colleagues, family)

Please contact your nearest library for assistance:
